The Global Talent Stream is a program offered by the Canadian government to help Canadian employers attract and hire highly skilled foreign workers quickly and efficiently. It is part of Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) and International Mobility Program (IMP) and is designed to address labor shortages in specific high-demand occupations and industries.
Here are some key features of the Global Talent Stream:
Two-Week Processing: One of the primary benefits of the Global Talent Stream is expedited processing of work permit applications. Eligible employers can receive a labor market impact assessment (LMIA) within two weeks.
Dedicated Service Channel: The program provides a dedicated service channel for employers to help them navigate the immigration process and receive timely information and updates.
Job Categories: The program is divided into two categories:
a. Category A: Employers in this category need to be referred by one of the program’s designated partners, which includes industry associations and provincial/territorial governments. This category is meant for innovative companies looking to hire unique and specialized talent.
b. Category B: Employers in this category can hire foreign workers for occupations on the Global Talent Occupations List. These occupations are considered high-demand, and employers can hire foreign workers for up to 15 calendar days in a six-month period or up to 30 calendar days in a 12-month period without requiring an LMIA.
Labor Market Benefits Plan (LMBP): Employers who use the Global Talent Stream are required to develop a Labor Market Benefits Plan that outlines their commitments to creating jobs for Canadians and increasing skills and training investments.
Work Permit Duration: Once foreign workers are approved through the Global Talent Stream, they can receive work permits for the duration of their job offer, up to a maximum of three years.
Spouses and Dependents: The spouses and dependent children of foreign workers approved through the Global Talent Stream are also eligible for open work permits and study permits, respectively.
The Global Talent Stream is part of Canada’s broader strategy to attract highly skilled workers and foster economic growth in key industries. It is designed to help Canadian employers address talent shortages and remain competitive in the global marketplace.
